Over the past couple of days I have been doing some initial packing of the Hawg. No clothing of course, but things like a toolkit, extra fuses, bulbs, 1st aid kit, mini bike wash kit, rain gear, extra gloves, etc. I have a printed checklist os I can track what I’ve packed and where on the bike it is located – done this enough times to know if I don’t keep track of where I put it I will end up digging through every possible spot before I finally find it!
The next leg of this journey takes us into The South – into the Ozarks first- where we’ll be visiting a friend and colleague and their wonderful kids. I visited them in 2012 but Pam has never met them. Darren is a chicken farmer and Misti is the photographer – her studio is pictured below. I first met Darren at my second Wall Portrait Conference in 2009 as he attended for Misti who couldn’t make it. Darren has his own plane and airfield so we’ll be going up for a flight so Pam can see this beautiful area from above.
After a couple of days there we’ll be headed to the Duck Commander “factory” and then for a swamp ride. If our time is still good we’ll probably have a drive through “Clinton country” on the way down. By now we’re hoping it will be t-shirt weather and we can really enjoy the deep south. This is Ribs and Catfish territory (my two faves) and I plan on having a little gator just to say that I have – since I missed out last time I was down there. The people of the south have always treated us very well and are among the most friendly we’ve ever come across. I like to say they are like Newfies with a different accent!
