Babies Portraits are always cute!
The thing about babies portraits is they are always always fun. Capturing the different stages of a baby’s first year (or two) in an album , portrait panel or collage will make a great heirloom. You can start with a newborn session and then every few months after that. Those beginning two years are full of changes and “firsts”. Putting babies portraits into an album is a great way to have a permanent record.
This little cutie, Skye, was in for her 8 month old session recently. I did a variety of babies portraits of her. The parents had brought a number of outfits and she was quite agreeable.
Most baby sessions only last about 30 minutes but it really depends on the child and what look and feel we are going for. In this case we wanted a close-up (not this one) for the parents to put in the Truro Daily News Babies 2014 insert and another image as a 16″ wall portrait.
At 8 months old, Skye was standing while holding onto anything. But she was not yet brave enough to take off! This is a great age from a Portrait Artist standpoint as they are fairly easy to control. They will drop down and crawl away. But many of them like the feeling of standing so stay put for a while. This is the easy part of creating babies portraits! The more difficult part comes when they are not happy or just not giving the expression the parents are looking for. That’s when knowing the signs for the various expressions comes in handy. There are little “pre-cursors” that tip us off as to what might be coming next. You can put your camera on motor drive and capture 5-6 images per second and still miss what you want. Since I was classically trained on film we didn’t have that luxury. I had a great mentor who taught me all about the face and facial analysis. It has saved me many times over the past 30 years!
