Just being me!

Child photography can be easy and it can be difficult!

There is no doubt you have lots of child photography choices for having your baby or child photographed. From a friend with a camera, department stores, part-time photographers and professional studios. And for most parents as long as they get a picture of their child smiling that’s all they want. They don’t care about lighting, composition, etc – and that’s great.

My style is a little different. It’s about capturing WHO they are. From the shape of their face, the contours of the cheeks, to their facial expressions and hand gestures. During our Design Meeting I also like to talk about clothing style. Then matching a subdued background to the personality I’m trying to capture. I call my style of studio child photography “Expressions of Innocence”. This truly timeless style of imagery is about mood and capturing the personality of your child. Featuring my own “Expressive Lighting” technique I prefer to work in black and white. The monochrome pallet can capture so much more detail. Plus the beauty of the features doesn’t get lost in all the colour. Of course this choice is yours. If you prefer a colour portrait then I will use proper lighting for that. Or we can choose to do your child photography outdoors. Our Hybrid Paintings are GORGEOUS with an outdoor session!

Here are a couple of client comments :1. “What’s kept us coming back again and again is Kirks’ extra attention to detail; the easy eagerness to know his subjects better and to add that extra dimension of personality to our photos.” – the Caldwells     2.  It’s been five years and I still look at that portrait and see the depth in the story it tells.”    – C. Cullip
