Day 27 – To Yellowstone and beyond!

We were on the road before 8 this morning and going south but we first had to stop at a DIY car wash to clean off the bike. Some of the construction we had gone thru in Alberta had left a disgusting yellow film all over our baby!

Avoiding the interstate, we took route US89 all the way to Yellowstone and it was a great run. Our first stop inside the park was at the Mammoth Hot Springs just to say we saw them. They are quite impressive but Pam says the sulfur smell is quite strong. After that we just toddled along stopping here and there for scenery and wildlife. The first was the most impressive as there were three grizzly bears about 150 yards away in a large field of sorts. This was the one time I wish I had brought my Nikon gear but watching them forage for grubs was very awesome! We stopped at Old Faithful to see the famous geyser spout water and steam on its regular 90 minute cycle. As we continued on through the Park we encountered more animals like mule deer, pronghorn antelope, elk, buffalo, cranes, a golden eagle, a flock of 24 pelicans! and more!

We then continued on through Grand Teton National Park which was mostly about the mountains and the lake but quite striking certainly. As we continued on through Wyoming to our room for the night we drove through more snow ( on the side of the roads and in the trees) than NS had all winter! It was still belly-high on a mule deer which crossed the road in front of us and headed up the hillside. Around another corner were a couple of young mule deer munching on the roadside grass while 10 minutes later we scared 4 elk back into the woods when I geared down the bike.

That was it for our day – the following images will give you a more visual idea.
