Day 29 – Southward bound to Arkansas

We got up early on Sunday and hit the road at 0657 as we rode south to visit friends in Arkansas, The temperature started out at 64 F and reached almost 90 before it began to cool down at the ned of the day. Our ride was from St. Louis to Prim, Arkansas which took us from the flat river delta to the Ozark mountains, from the boring interstate highway to the twisty tight turns of rural mountain roads.

It was very hot and mostly sunny although we did get caught in a couple of rain events which found us quickly pulling over to don the rain gear! Both times the rain didn’t last long and we weren’t long pulling over again and stripping off the sweat-causing gear. We arrived in Prim at about 2:30 and spent the afternoon just visiting and catching up. The wonderful southern accent here is easy to understand but contrary to the “deep south” they still speak quickly here – especially the kids! I can only imagine that it must be similar to a Southener listening to a Newfie! I’ve been here before so I mostly have no problem keeping in the conversations.
