Another great travel day – 960 km! A little rain, a little wind, some sun, lots of cloud, a little more rain but it was warm all day so we were happy.
Started the day in North Dakota, quickly entered Minnesota (and stayed in it for most of the day), spent a couple of hours in Iowa and ended up in central Wisconsin! I have only two states left and I will have ridden in all of the lower 48 :)). Minnesota might be ” the land of 10,000 Lakes but we only saw 3 of them. But we did see at least 10,000 cornfields! I never knew they grew so much corn in Minnesota. I counted less than 10 hay and grain fields but every available square yard was planted with corn. I half expected to see corn growing in the median of the highways!! We also did not see a single herd of cattle ( beef or dairy) out in a pasture. I believe they must grow most of the corn to produce ethanol as we did see one large ethanol plant. Northwest Iowa was very much like the Annapolis Valley except bigger as was the part of Wisconsin we drove thru. We did make a short stop at the Laura Ingalls-Wilder museum in Burr Oak, Iowa but it had closed for the day. Too bad as we would have liked to have learned a little more of the inside scoop about her since we both grew up watching Little House on the Prairie!
Tomorrow morning I am hoping to have the local HD dealer install a new rear tire as this one is done! It was probably done on Friday but by the time I got near a HD dealer on Saturday it was closed and none open today. The front one is getting close as well so I’ll have them check the tread depth. Then we head to Milwaukee to the Harley Museum to spend a few hours absorbing all that it is to be “Harley” 🙂
