Day 31 – Happy Happy Happy!

We left Prim at 0800 under cloudy skies but nice and warm. It was basically a six hour, due south ride to West Monroe, Louisiana. Why West Monroe? – that is the home of Duck Commander – the home of the popular TV reality show, Duck Dynasty. Pam is a big fan so this was a planned stop.

First on the agenda was a stop at Willy’s Duck Diner for lunch. Pam went for a simple chef salad but I checked another rite off of my “really gotta try that” list. I had a gator meat po-boy. Deep fried gator chunks with a cajun sauce in a sub-type bun. The gator was good – kinda like a rubbery chicken consistency with a strong finish taste.

Next we headed off to the Duck Commander warehouse/store facility. Sadly, none of the Robertsons or main employees were around though and a big thunderstorm was beginning as we arrived. We didn’t have much of a chance to get many outdoor photos as the buckets were soon pouring and the thunder and lightning were fierce. The noise inside the store was deafening on the metal roof and one of the store clerks helped me check the weather radar to see how long it would last. The whole state is under rain and storm warnings until at least midnight so needless to say we have checked into a motel.

We are planning to go back early in the morning and take a few more photos outside the D.C. warehouse before we go south towards Lafayette and hopefully a swamp tour!
