Had an awesome breakfast of French toast and sausages with Karen this morning and then we went a little north of Lexington to an area of exquisite horse farms and a Bourbon Distillery. When I say exquisite I mean $$$$$. The fields and fence lines are extremely manicured, the horse barns are fancier than most homes in NS and they are gated with video cameras and intercom systems!
It was in this area that I rolled over the 20,000 KM mark on this trip and we made a portrait at the distillery to commemorate this milestone! That number is almost hard to believe – it is more mileage than many motorcycle owners put on a bike during their lifetime and car owners in a whole year. Funny thing is- it doesn’t feel like that much. We will be home in just over a week and in some ways it feels like I’m just getting started. If I could figure out a way to make a living at this I could be persuaded to change careers 🙂
The weather today was incredible, with temperatures in the 80’s and only a light breeze. Avoided the interstate all day and some of the roads had some nice sweeping curves a very little traffic. The roads in Kentucky and Tennessee are awesome although many of the Kentucky roads we travelled have no shoulder at all. Good in that there is no loose gravel to worry about but bad in there is no where to pull off to take photos.
Because of all the mileage I have logged the bike is past due for an oil change and service so I dropped into the Henderson dealership late this afternoon and they are taking me in at 0800 tomorrow which is awesome! Checked the front tire and it still has lots of tread left which is amazing considering it has almost 30,000 K on it ( and the rear tire had 27,000 when it was replaced this week )- tell me running Nitrogen doesn’t make a difference!
We got to go swimming in the motel pool – the first time on this trip. Another first was our supper at the Longhorn Steakhouse – which I highly recommend! So I guess that’s it for today but tomorrow is looking more awesome weather wise – forecasted high is 88 and sunny and the weekend is 90’s !!!
