Family Photographs. Watch this short video. It shows some examples of where and how people can display a properly designed and appropriately-sized Wall Portrait.
One of my favourite quotes from Michael J. Fox, “Family is not an important thing . . . it is EVERYTHING.”
Since I started my first photography business in 1994 this will be my 25th year in business! so I’m celebrating by making February Family Portrait Month. This week’s blog explains a little bit about my “why”.
At Tobias Portraiture we believe in the value of printed portraiture. Family photographs which do not require electricity or devices to enjoy. Of course it is definitely nice to be able to share them over the internet or to have at your fingertips in your phone. However, the ability to sit back with a coffee or glass of wine and admire your family on your wall is very comforting. Child psychologists know that having a family portrait on the wall for children to see constantly has a reassuring affect. Here’s an interesting LINK. This is because it subconsciously tells them they are an important part of the “EVERYTHING” that we call family. It projects they are loved. It’s a constant. There is no comparing this to the fleeting moments an image is viewed on a computer or laptop.
Can you imagine the subliminal message that a child may receive when the picture of a flower or department store abstract is many times larger than their photo? Is your flatscreen tv is bigger than the family portrait? If one is even on display. This is not a conscious choice by parents. In fact, I only became aware of these things when I made the transition from photographer to Portrait Artist about 15 years ago. I want the portraits I create for my clients to help the children understand they are loved. Wanted. Enjoyed. As I know they are.
