Family Photography of your own family is challenging!

Believe it or not many photographers don’t do family photography. And of those who do many don’t have their own family portrait created on a regular basis. I do. Virtually every single year since our eldest, Ashley, was born we have created a family portrait. Most years I do it myself with the aid of a remote or an assistant. This image was captured with the help of my current assistant, Jessica. Pretty much an impossible image to do myself with 2 dogs and a cat!

But every 4-5 years I hire another professional who specializes in family photography. You heard right – I HIRE them. Just like you hire me. I go through their system, I expect them to provide recommendations to assist in achieving the quality they are known for and in the end I write them a cheque. I do this so I can truly appreciate what my clients feel when working and investing their time and money with me. It also helps me improve the experience I offer to my family photography clients.

And for those who are interested my family. Above from left to right: Zack, Spenser, Pam, Ruby, Kirk (me), Ashley and Brysco. This image was created at Spencer’s Point near Great Village. My inlaws used to have a cottage there when the kids were little. Pam and I spent many weekends there getting to know one another in our early years. This hangs over the love seat in the living room of our little bungalow as a 60″ canvas.
