Family photos while everyone is home for the holidays!
This is one of the most popular times of the year for family photos. Family living away come home for the holidays because we enjoy being with loved ones at this time of year. We are available for in-home portraits, studio portraits and outdoor portraits. However, the downside to in-home portraits during the holidays is usually the decorations. Nobody seems to want their Christmas decorations in their wall portrait. The downside to outdoor portraits is without snow, this time of year is not very “pretty” and often too cold for the wee ones. Family photos in the studio allow us to concentrate on expressions Plus there are no worries about lighting because I can control it completely. And of course completely climate controlled.
These clients wanted their family photos in their favourite room and to show the fireplace. We timed this portrait to happen while the girls were home from university. I designed this portrait to be relaxed yet maintain a touch of formality. They are close-knit family so I posed them in a tight grouping. The lighting was a careful blend of ambient lamp lights, a north light window and two flash units. The lamps provided the warmth which colour-balanced the flames and the candles. This family were quite pleased with this family portrait. There was a family heirloom piano in the back corner of the room we just couldn’t get into the family image. We did use it to create some images of just the girls together and mom and dad too.
