Maternity Photography
Baby Bumps

Award winning Maternity Photography.

My first baby bump portrait predates the popularity of this wonderful genre we call Maternity Photography. In August of 1991 Vanity Fair hit the newsstand and set off a ridiculous debate!  How can such a wonderful time in a woman’s life be considered offensive? Even by today’s standards it was perhaps a little revealing. But there are swimsuit ads and televised lingerie events that make Demi’s portrait very tame.

But it did raise the awareness of this beautiful portrait style. Maternity photography was “born” so to speak. Since then I have probably created close to 100 portraits showing off the baby bump in one form or another. From fully clothed to fully nude I have done it all. In studio, in home and on location clients choose what they like. Some will add in their partner while others add in older siblings. When it comes to maternity photography the only limit is yours!

Lighting is probably the most important single element that separates an okay maternity portrait from an incredible one. Ask any master photographer, painter, sculptor and they will all tell you that to show form you need shadow. To get shadow you need light. To get proper, form giving shadow you need great lighting. It might be soft or it may be harsh, maybe one or maybe many. But you need to know what your goal is and understand how to achieve it.

With all of our sessions we include a Design Meeting and this is vitally important with maternity photography. I need to know what you like and don’t like. What is your vision or maybe even help you find one.
