Had The Cat Shack put new rubber on today and then went for a short ride! The warm sun and the cool wind felt wonderful on my face – just a teaser for my trip. For those who’ve never experienced a motorcycle ride in the hands of a seasoned rider on a warm day it is hard to describe. For me, as that rider- with over 160k in the saddle in 48 states and 8 provinces, it is a time where my mind empties of everything except what’s happening in front of me. Sometimes I’ll blast the music and other times I’ll turn it off and enjoy the hum of the tires and the whistling of the wind.
As for my trip, I plan on heading almost due east after I leave Hells Canyon and then eventually swinging north to Winnipeg. But in-between those 2 places I’m really not sure when or if I’ll be stopping much. I have time so anything is possible so I’ll let the roadsigns determine what happens. But once I get there, I have a number of colleagues in Winnipeg and am looking forward to getting together with them for an evening of drinks, food, jokes and business.
After Winnipeg I’ll head westward again towards Saskatoon with a visit with another colleague or two and then a visit with an old friend I have not seen in almost 28 years – my Best Man! By this time those 8 provinces I mentioned above will be 10 and another one of those goals I set for myself will be complete. This road trip has a number of specific destinations – both for business and for pleasure – but me it’s always about the journey. For everyone following this blog and taking part in the Mileage Challenge it is also about the journey and once it officially begins on the 28th I hope you’ll continue to follow.
