Pet Portraits are more popular than ever.
Photographing pet portraits is like working with little children with more hair! I’ve been around dogs my whole life. So becoming a pet photographer was easy. Learning how to create great pet portraits was more challenging. Animals are different from people in the way their eyes are set in the heads. Also because they are covered in hair. These two factors are very important in pet photography. Your lighting has to make the individual hairs stand out. Many pet portraits of all black dogs look like silhouettes – this is not good. A similar thing happens with all white dogs except they look like a snow sculpture. So lighting the most important part of pet photography. Once you get the lighting down then all the other artistic points come into play. Composition, posing, colour harmony, etc.
With our new pet paintings we start by creating a great pet photograph and then using a digital paintbrush we use that for the basis of the painting. Our digital painting specialist is phenomenal! Seeing the paintings on a computer screen does not do justice to how incredible the finished painted pet portraits look on canvas.
