Roadtrip 2014 – Day 4

Started off the day by sleeping in to 0630 since the local forecast was for heavy rain until almost 0800 and my B&B host, Karen, was making breakfast for 0700. I climbed on the bike at 755 at hit the road and thanks to accurate forecasting I stayed dry! In fact I stayed dry for the entire day (which was a nice change) through 5 states – Ky, In, Il, Mo and Ks. However it was a very cool and windy day and my heated gear was never turned off. All was going well until about 25 miles before St. Louis when the I-64w was almost turned into a parking lot due to a fatal accident. They detoured us around the scene which all together was a two hour parade of cars and 18 wheelers about 5 miles long.

I finally got to see the Arch briefly as I drove into and through St. Louis – it is quite a sight! But WOW! is St. Louis and its adjoining communities one huge city! It took me about 50 minutes going 60 MPH to get from one side to the other. The other thing I can say is that western Kentucky is flat; Indiana is Flat; Illinois is FLat, Missouri is really FLAT (except the western part which is a little rolling) and Kansas looks pretty flat so far!

Tomorrow looks cool and dry and windy – so basically like today – at least through Kansas.
