Got up in the morning and checked the weather radar for Louisiana and it was really pretty! Lots of reds and pinks – which unfortunately means major quantities of liquid. We were planning on going south to Lafayette but that’s where the rain was headed. so unfortunately that meant we had to revise out plans so we packed up quickly and rode east ahead of the mess.
We stayed dry all through eastern Louisiana and all of Mississippi but the skies were very grey. Every time we stopped for gas the fast moving storm seemed to be nipping at our heels. We would get a few raindrops on us and then pull ahead of the clouds. On the route we were on there wasn’t much to see anyway but we didn’t dare stop too much.
We finally left the storm behind us as it moved more north but when we hit Alabama we ran into another mess of storms with some pretty hard rain. We managed to get through Birmingham just ahead of rush hour ( but the traffic was bad enough as it was) as the rain got harder and the lightning was flashing so we called it a day in Leeds. We dried our clothing as best we could and called it a night.
