Yes folks, the Okefenokee Swamp is a real place! We got up early and headed south through some Newfoundland-like fog to get to Okefenokee Adventures and our tour through the Swamp. Honestly, I always had thought tha it was just some made up place with a funky name for some kids books.
Our tour guide, Joey, was great and was born right in the local area. “His” swamp was very important to him and he knew pretty much everything there was to know. The tour was 90 minutes long and we saw 7 alligators and a barred owl. The fog had burned off and it was a very hot morning so most of the gators were in the darker, cooler areas so we didn’t see any out sunbathing out of the water.
After the tour we decided just to head south to Daytona Beach a day early so pam called and was able to check us into our hotel a day early. We arrived at DBR around 7, unpacked the bike and had some supper.
