Being a Santa Photographer is so rewarding!
As a Portrait Artist I’ve had colleagues question why I would be a Santa photographer. And to be honest, standing around a mall all day isn’t for me. Taking Santa pictures of a guy in a fake beard with kids also doesn’t fit my personality.
BUT – I love the magic of Christmas! More specifically the magic Santa brings for kids at Christmas. So I decided to build an authentic-looking,vintage Santa’s Workshoppe. Then I had to hook up with Santa. I wanted to be THE Santa photographer! So I put the word out that I had built a workshop in Nova Scotia and wanted Santa to call. Well, as you can imagine I had plenty of pretend Santas contact me. Over 100 in fact! I spoke with a few I thought might be him but no luck. Then another photographer mentioned he had ran into Santa. He told me how I might find him. I was ecstatic! I was so close I could smell the sugar plums! And the rest is history.
Santa and I have been working together for two years now. It is so much fun! Just watching the look on the children faces when the jolly old soul walks into the workshop is awesome! And the parents too! We’ve had Mom’s and Dad’s in tears of joy! And some of the stories the kids tell. Kids DO say the darnedest things!
We start photographing in Santa’s Workshoppe in August and go right through almost to Christmas. We can have up to four children for each session. After that the magic of the visit and the story get lost. And it is about the experience as much or more than the portraits. It truly is The Ultimate Childhood Experience!
