An awesome maternity session! More models/volunteers needed.

Just had an incredible maternity session! Hayley was a great model and a wonderful beginning to my new project, “The Strength of the Woman“.

Many maternity portraits, including those have I created, focus on the bump and the beauty and softness of that time in a woman’s life and there’s nothing wrong with that. Except . . . many women want more, or different – because that’s not what defines them. For certain, most woman would say that being a Mom is their most important job and many would even say it is their favourite role. But women today, for many years actually, have so many other roles, jobs, interests and desires pulling them in many directions it is amazing they keep it all together. And many of these directions are in non-traditional areas because the boundaries and barriers are coming down – too slowly in some cases but coming down to be sure!

The idea for this project began last February and came from a maternity client who is a “high crane operator”. Unfortunately it was the dead of winter and we couldn’t make her idea work. This new portrait project will feature expectant mothers but will focus on some of the other meaningful aspects of their lives – jobs, hobbies or dreams that help them be the Moms they are or will become. These portraits of Hayley were created to get women thinking about what else helps define who they are or what they could become. As a petite young woman it might surprise some to see Hayley as a mechanic, yet more and more women are working in these non-traditional jobs.

So what is your job? hobby? dream? Are you expecting a child? Or someone you know? Interested in being a part of this project? Contact me for details or with your idea.
