Day 12 – flying high!

posted in: Roadtrip | 6

I started my day a little late because I needed the sleep so I did not leave until about 0800. But the rest did me good and prepared me for the day. Besides getting to see that little thing called the Grand Canyon, it was “it’s my highway and I’ll play on it if I want to” day for the animal population. Started off with two coyotes chasing breakfast across the road in front of me, then it was a good sized snake that turned out to be little more than a “thump-thump” speed bump under my tires, next was a succession of elk (7 to be exact from morning to dusk ) that knew they could stop traffic with their good looks, not to be outdone Ms Mule Deer showed me a little leg and a smile as I was leaving the Canyon and finally, to end the day with a hoot, an owl swooped down in front of me in the dark ( and scared me more than all the rest combined)!
The GC is everything I thought and more. Incredible is probably the best word and I’ll leave it at that. The helicopter ride over the GC was just WOW!WOW!WOW!WOW! Well worth the money and I paid extra to get the front seat so I could have as little as possible in my way for both the camera, the video (mounted to my head!) and my eyes. I can’t find the cable for the video camera but I will add some images for you. I was going to go back tomorrow but all the walking today bothered my hip too much to do it again and short of going down into the canyon I got to see all I wanted.

Amazing pics and great commentary Kirk. Feel like I’m right there less the feel of the bike, no wind in the face, no warm temps, no statelines to cross…ok, so not like I’m there. In any case sounds like a trip of a lifetime so keep the rubber and pavement married and keep em coming…

…Ms Mule Deer showed me a little leg and a smile as I was leaving the Canyon and finally, to end the day with a hoot, an owl swooped down in front of me in the dark … absolutely TOO funny, Kirk. I’m enjoying the trip through your eyes! 🙂

Just do it! I am having an amazing time and just wish Pam was with me already. I am so glad that regardless of what else seemed to pop up to stop this trip I just said “screw it” and left anyway.
