Day 20 – Wet to start – wet in the middle – wet to finish!

This whole west coast swing has been wet. But today just ticked me off. While I was packing up the room this morning it looked gray but dry but by the time I got to the bike it was raining. So I put on my rain gear and it stayed on all day. There were a couple of times the rain would stop and the sun would even poke thru but then WHAM! – rain again. It rained steadily continuously when I was in the Redwood Forest so I experienced it but the photos suck – I just didn’t want to stop long enough to get even wetter.
On the highway it rained so hard on two separate occasions that I had to pull off the road because I could not see the car in front of me! Mostly because of the rain but partially because so many nincompoops do not turn on their lights when it’s raining! It may not help you see but it sure as heck makes a difference to the guy behind you. And Daytime Running Lights don’t cut it because your taillights are not on. So if you are one of those, please remember this next time and turn on your lights as soon as raindrops hit the windshield – it might be my life or one of my buddies that you save 🙂
Here’s an FYI for any one traveling thru Portland round 5 p on a weekday – DON’T!! Rush hour lasts until almost 8 pm. Freeway, schmeeway – it’s a parking lot! Bumper to bumper right on the I-5 for miles:( I got to the outskirts on the south side at about 630 and didn’t make past Vancouver (Wa.) on the north side until after 800. Motels up here in the Northwest are quite expensive compared to the South. Motel 6 in the South was $31.95 here it was almost double that! But I missed that in all the traffic so I bartered myself a King Suite for a sweet price ( compared to what they wanted ) – too bad I’m all alone and going to sleep as soon as my laundry is dry.
