Day 32 – Goal Achieved!

Left Mendota, Illinois this morning and headed southeast and at 11:13 am local time I completed my goal of riding in all 48 of the “lower 48” US states when we crossed the border into Michigan 🙂 It was not punctuated by any great scene, location or occurrence but the completion of another goal gave me a great feeling! It was a beautiful sunny warm day with a cool breeze off Lake Michigan but it was not a great photo day as we drove through an abundance of farmland – well, really a crapload of corn fields!! In the past three days we have seen enough corn plants to last a lifetime.

Yesterday after we left Milwaukee we selected a route thru southern Wisconsin and then northern Illinois so we could avoid the rush hour traffic of Chicago and today we chose a route to avoid the rush hour traffic of Indianapolis. Since we were in no hurry and also wanted to avoid the interstate highways anyway this increased our travel time and mileage but loved the ride! We saw our first nuclear power silo of this trip today in Indiana along the shores of Lake Michigan. Tonite we are in Seymour, Indiana at my fave (read low price) Motel 6. Tomorrow we head into one of our favorite states, Kentucky, and to see our friend, Karen, who we met two years ago. Weather forecast for our route for the next few days is for sun and heat – mid 80’s to 90!!
