Day 40 – Cold and Wet

Can I just say that I really detest cold & wet. Left Kittery before 0800 and went to Big Moose Harley Davidson in Portland to get a new front tire and brakes. What a great place! Very friendly, great service and lots of Bling and clothes to choose from – I bought a nice golf shirt and Pam a t-shirt. Tire was even on sale for $50 off!! They were a busy spot today with riders stopping in on their way to Laconia. One poor girl had broke down in the middle of nowhere last night and they were going to try to get her going by days end and one guy thought he had fork issues because he had a bad wobble discovered hejussi had a under inflated tire!! I was so glad i had called yesterday and booked us in because they had us on the road by 1030.

It was raining hard when we left Kittery and it was raining hard when we left Portland. But after taking the interstate from Kittery we decided to avoid that and told the GPS to get us to Calais as quickly as possible without the Interstate. It took us on some roads I have travelled many times but a few shortcuts on some really decent roads that I have never been on before! We stopped at Moody’s Diner n Waldoboro, Maine for some clam chowdah and a sandwich for lunch. We really needed the chowdah to warm us up and it was pretty darn good. I did have to break down and put on my long johns though as the cool wet air had numbed my legs prior to us stopping for lunch.

For the first time since I bought my boots about 7 years ago I got wet feet today. So by the time we got to our motel I was a little uncomfortable and cool. But all is well. I will be both happy and sad to see the end of this wonderful excursion tomorrow when we arrive home around lunch time. I have completed a trek that was important to me and have learned some great new things and ideas from colleague’s across the USA which I will be implementing as soon as possible into my business. I have many great memories and will remember many great scenes – some of which I have photos of for me (and for sale). I did not check the mileage today as I am going to wait until I complete the journey to see what my final total will be but my original estimate of 24,000 km will be slightly low I suspect.
