Day 5 – Damp, Wet, Soaked and Drenched

From the minute I entered Alabama until I put it in my rear view it was nothing but liquid sunshine:( Saw my first (of many) dead armadillo and lots of turkeys before the rain got too bad though.
I can tell you that Alabama was fairly flat and not much to see along my route anyway but Mississippi weather was much better and Louisiana was all sun and heat 🙂 but all of the streams and rivers down here are very brown or yellow with silt from the mud banks. Don’t think I’ve seen a clear one yet!

Had a lunch at a great BBQ joint in Miss. courtesy of a delightful young lady who was filling up her BFT next to me. I never would have found it on my own but those ribs were awesome as were the baked beans! Didn’t take me long, once I was in Louisiana, to have to dodge a turtle crossing the road – maybe I should try turtle soup? Nah – I have been wanting to try some Cajun crawfish for years so that’s what I had for supper. Pretty darn good little “mini lobsters” – but a lot of work getting through 3 lbs of the suckers (and that’s a small order). The restaurant was right on the bayou and my table was outside on the deck. There were hundreds of turtles right below me as they are used to being fed some “special pellet feed” you could buy from a gum ball type dispenser.

Louisiana is very FLAT – almost prairie-like. Fields of various crops as far as I could see on either side of the road from the Miss/Louisiana border almost right to Monroe where I am tonight. Tomorrow I head to Shreveport to visit a colleague, Pat Harrington, I met about five years ago at the Delta School of Professional Photography. Then it’s north to Prim, Arkansas to spend some time with another colleague, Darren Carleton, who attended the Wall Portrait Conference with Ashley and I three years ago. I might stop in to Hot Springs which is Bill Clinton’s hometown on my way up.
Guess that’s it for today. Here are some pics from the day.
